Firebird Stories: Sister Mary
I was only 8 when your father [Ralph] graduated college and moved far away. He had always been my hero. With 15 years between us he was like another dad to me. So I have mixed feelings about his car. Back then I hated it because it took him away. My last memory back then was of him driving away in his new car. I was devastated and missed him terribly. When he was due to come home for a visit, I would sit on the front steps and watch for his maroon Firebird to go by. The summer after he and your mom married, instead of watching them drive off again, I got to go back to Ohio with them. 14 hours in the back of that car with your brother. :-) I am sure your mom and dad were glad we slept a lot of the way.
